Tour Description

Join me on this walking tour of Valletta which is the ideal way to see the main city highlights.

During this tour I will tell you all about the Knights who built the city during the 16th century to further fortify the harbour. We will see the beautiful palazzos which line the main streets and the pretty piazzas and you will also learn about the local people going about their everyday lives, their churches and festivities.

Tour Highlights:
I will meet you in front of St. James's Cavalier, located opposite Auberge de Castille in Castille Place.

We start with a visit to Upper Barraka Gardens which provide stunning views over the Harbour. As we walk along Merchant's Street I will point out Victory Church, Auberge d'Italie, Palazzo Parisio and the Castellania. We will then turn towards St. John's Co-Cathedral, Republic Street and Auberge de Provence.

After that we take a short detour from the main touring route via 'Strait Street'. This was Valletta's thriving 'live entertainment' area during the 1940's - 50's, very popular with British and American sailors and military personnel! Efforts are being made to liven this area up once more with some of the old bars actually reopening, but with the decor being more sophisticated.

We continue on to Grand Masters Palace, St George's Square, Pjazza Regina, Bibliotheca, St. Paul's Shipwreck Church and Indoor Market.

We may include an internal visit of St. Paul's Shipwreck Church or Indoor Market, if they are open to the public at that moment in time. After passing the Old University and Jesuit Church we finish our tour at Nenu 'The Artisan Baker'. Here you can enjoy a meal, light snack or just a drink.
