Tour Description

Join me on this walking tour of Birgu(Vittoriosa) which is the ideal way to see the main highlights of this ancient maritime city.

During our tour you will walk through the 'Collacchio' which is the historical area occupied by the Knights when they first came to Malta in 1530. We will see the impressive Fort St. Angelo and walk along the beautiful Birgu waterfront which in the past berthed the gallant ships. You can end your tour with a 30 min traditional Dghajsa boat trip..

We will start our tour from the main entrance to the city, known as Advanced Gate.

This tour includes three parts. After we go through Advanced Gate, Couvre Porte and Gate of Provence we pass the Inquisitor's Palace before entering the Collacchio. I will point out the Executioner's house, the quaint street known as 'Steps Street', Auberge de France, Auberge d'Angleterre and Victory Square.

We walk past St Joseph's Oratory through St. Lawrence's Close and also past the parish church of Birgu, which was the original conventual church of the Order before St John's in Valletta. We end up on the impressive Birgu watefront. We can take a stroll along the waterfront admiring the palazzos and warehouses from the time of the Knights, on to Fort St. Angelo and you can admire the stunning views across the harbour.

At this stage you can join a 30 min trip on a traditional boat which will take you around the Birgu peninsula, giving you a great view from the sea. After the boat trip we will end the tour in front of the Maritime Museum.

I can escort you back to the start point or you may want to have a meal, snack or a drink at one of the seafront cafes or restaurants and enjoy the great views for a little longer.
